Program Description and Objectives

The Social Work program aims to train professionals capable of consistently applying the main frameworks of the social sciences, humanities, and Social Work knowledge production. This translates into foundational skills for research and social intervention. Graduates are equipped to generate critical and complex analyses of social realities, design and implement effective and innovative social interventions, and contribute to addressing key challenges in the country’s social agenda by providing criteria and strategies for improving specific programs and social policies.

Career Opportunities: Social Work training at the University of Chile integrates conceptual development, research, social intervention, and knowledge transfer. Graduates are prepared to work at various levels in the public and private sectors, in institutions and organizations that design, evaluate, and implement public policies, as well as to begin a career in social research.

Graduate Profile

The Social Work graduate from the University of Chile is a professional capable of consistently applying the main frameworks of the social sciences, humanities, and Social Work knowledge production. This translates into foundational skills for research and social intervention. These skills are developed through a collaborative, autonomous, and reflective process that integrates diverse conceptual and methodological perspectives with high levels of consistency. This preparation enables graduates to generate critical and complex analyses of social realities, design and implement efficient and innovative social interventions, and contribute to addressing key challenges on the country’s social agenda by providing criteria and strategies for improving specific programs and social policies.

Additionally, this training enables graduates to advocate for the legitimacy of plural forms of life in the public sphere, promoting progress toward a substantive democracy in terms of both social redistribution and recognition of all citizens.

In this way, their education integrates conceptual development, research, social intervention, and knowledge transfer. Graduates are prepared to work at various levels in the public and private sectors, in institutions and organizations that design, evaluate, and implement public policies, as well as to engage in social research.
